Who are you?

“I am a Black woman, an artist, and a truth-teller who seeks deep connection, authenticity, and genuine love in the space I occupy—which is diverse, inclusive, creative, community-focused, and truly rooted in building equity for black folks. I am a daughter, raised by two visionaries who never accepted the status quo. In 1980, my parents created the Malcolm Brown Gallery, the first for-profit Black-owned art gallery in the US. At the time, the story of Black American art was incomplete—and it still is. The gallery closed in 2011, but I re-launched it in 2022 to carry on their legacy. I am the mother of two incredible young men. Happy Pride Month, Avery! And shout out to Isaac as he completes his junior year!” If you know me—you know I go hard for my kids—all day every day. Children are precious gifts from God. For all the families (no matter your definition of family) raising kids; you know that it’s joyful, but it is hard work and it’s a lifetime commitment of support—of their whole selves—that is our charge as parents while they navigate life—especially as parents of Black children.

Why did you design the bag you did? Why did you select the style? Leather?

I designed this bag because the shape was very round and unique. I decided to choose this style of leather because I like luxe items. I am also very colorful, so I needed something to represent ME!

What does your bag say about you?

My bag says that I am a risk taker. It is a bold and beautiful accessory.

I’m continually growing into myself: I am made up of all the experiences I’ve had to date.

Who are you?

I am a certified image consultant and bake shop owner. My purpose is to have a positive impact on people that I meet and leave behind a lasting legacy by sharing possibilities. I believe everyone can have elevated experiences that enhance their quality of life. The ability to see the possibilities in life allows one to remain positive and hopeful. I was born into this World with nothing and I want to leave behind something positive in my lifetime.

Have you always been you or did you grow into yourself?

I’ve grown into myself over time. I didn’t grow up in an environment where confidence was encouraged. I’ve had to build confidence over time.

Who are you?

I am first and foremost - Meghan! From there I am a mom, wife, sister, daughter, friend, aunt and business woman. I am a go-getter, connector, motivator and strategist. I love supporting women and helping people find their truest potential.

Have you always been you or did you grow into yourself?

Both. I have always been me but as I have gotten older I have been able to appreciate my strengths and weaknesses for what they are and realize that that is exactly who I was meant to be.

What does your bag say about you?

My bag ties my entire look together. I love having it make a statement but it has to be functional.

As I am getting older I am learning to trust myself more and put myself into new situations that let me grow. I am cultivating a ‘you never know what will happen’ type of attitude.
